About Dilshan
Dr Dilshan Udayasiri is a consultant Colorectal Surgeon and General/Trauma Surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He applies evidence-based practice to deliver personalised and holistic care for patients.
Dr Udayasiri can help you with all colorectal conditions and has a particular interest in colorectal cancer. Dilshan knows how life-changing the diagnosis of cancer is for an individual and their loved ones. He is passionate about developing a long-term relationship with his patients and ensuring treatments align with their wishes and health goals. Dr Udayasiri firmly believes that the best outcomes are achieved when the doctor and patient work together.
Dilshan completed his General Surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. He then pursued Doctoral Studies in Colorectal Cancer research at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the University of Melbourne. Following this, he was admitted into the highly selective, globally recognised post-fellowship training program run by the Australia and New Zealand Training Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. During his two-year fellowship, Dilshan worked alongside some of Australia’s best colorectal surgeons, becoming an expert in minimal invasive (keyhole) and complex colorectal surgery.
Colorectal surgery is a rapidly developing subspecialty. Dilshan is a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne and continues to be an avid researcher in the field of colorectal surgery. He ensures that his patients receive the most up to date care using cutting-edge techniques. Dr Udayasiri works with world-renowned specialists and his public appointment at the Royal Melbourne Hospital offers access to quaternary level medical subspecialties if required.
Additionally, Dilshan is completing a Masters of Biostatistics at Monash University with an aim to developing a training program to equip the next generation of surgeons with the skills required to perform meaningful and impactful surgical research.
Dr Udayasiri has been mentored by Associate professor Ian Hayes, a highly respected and experienced colorectal surgeon in Melbourne. Dilshan will be caring for Ian’s patients after his retirement in 2023.
Beyond his professional commitments, Dilshan is a keen astrophotographer, bee keeper and reef keeper. He is married with three children.

Melbourne Private Hospital offers public parking for a fee via Royal Parade; however, it is a highly congested carpark and frequently reaches full capacity.
